Our Friend the Enemy

Soy Arts Theatre has facilitated a number of live theatre productions.  On Monday 3rd November they present ‘Our Friends the Enemy.'

About…
The Western Front 1914: lights appear from the German trenches, ghosts rise behind the horizon, soldiers meeting between the firing lines.  The events which follow are the most astounding stories of the Great War told through the eyes of one soldier, Private James Boyce: ‘We are fighting the same enemy, just on two different sides.’  Boyce takes us on a magical haunting journey through the events surrounding the Christmas Truce.
 
It starts at 7 pm

William Gordon

Today we remember William Gordon, Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders, who was killed near Ypres on 29th October 1914.  He was the son of William & Isabella Gordon of 18 Cullen Street, Portsoy.

Next Sunday Talk

Did you have a relative who fought in the Great War of 1914-1918? Would you like to discover more about the part they played? Come along to the Salmon Bothy on Sunday 26th October at 2.30pm and hear how the discoveries we made while researching Portsoy's war casualties and others involved in the war effort. This is the next in our series of WW1 related talks. 

The usual £3 charge includes refreshments after the talk.

WW1: The Home Front

The first world war had a profound impact on the local community, even on those who weren't involved in fighting. Find out how people in Portsoy responded to global events back in 1914. Annie Scott gives the next in the series of WW1 themed talks on Sunday 19th October at 2.30pm, Upstairs at the Bothy. Her presentation, entitled "The Home Front", will focus on how local people contributed to the war effort and how the Great War affected their lives.
The admission fee of £3 includes refreshments after the talk.

The next of the Sunday Talks is on Sunday 12 October.  Charles Burnett will talk of Imperial Britain v Imperial Germany at sea 1914 - 1918.  The price is £3.  It commences at 2.30.
